Delta Math RTI and DeltaMath are not the same thing

Searches for “delta math RTI” and “delta math intervention” land on two unrelated products. One is a Michigan-built screening and intervention program used inside an RTI/MTSS framework; the other is the practice platform this site covers. Here is how to tell them apart and what each does.

How Delta Math RTI works

The program is built around the idea that students struggle with grade-level math when prerequisite standards from earlier grades are unfinished. Rather than ranking students by percentile, its screeners test specific readiness standards (end-of-year benchmarks from the previous grade) so a team can see exactly which skills each student is missing.

Screening cycle

  • Fall (Aug 15 – Oct 31): Tier 2 readiness screener for all students; Tier 3 screener for students not responding to Tier 2 intervention.
  • Winter: Tier 2 readiness screener again after support has been provided for each readiness standard, plus a Tier 1 screener at the end of February.
  • Screeners are online, take 15–25 minutes, and report results immediately.

Reports

The Standard Summary Report shows which readiness standards a grade level needs to work on; the Intervention Group Report schedules small, flexible groups per standard. Teams use these in data meetings and parent-teacher conferences.

Tiered intervention

  • Tier 2: 8-session cycles per readiness standard, roughly 30 minutes each, 3–5 days per week, with explicit systematic instruction, visual representations, daily progress monitoring (Quick Checks), and goal-setting (Growth Charts). Students can exit after meeting the goal three times.
  • Tier 3: 8-session cycles for students who did not respond to Tier 2, based on a Tier 3 screener that locates where learning discontinued. Early exit is not recommended.
  • Distributed practice: Additional Guided Practice forms A/B/C, Visual Fluency Cards, Independent Practice Activities, and online practice for grades 1 through Algebra 2 readiness standards.

Lessons integrate recommendations from the Institute of Education Sciences practice guide on math intervention. Pre-teaching lessons exist for grades 1 through Algebra 1 and an instructional routine with online practice through Algebra 2.

How DeltaMath.com handles intervention

DeltaMath is not an RTI program, but teachers do use it for remediation in three ways:

  1. Skill-specific assignments. Because the library reaches back to elementary arithmetic, a high school teacher can assign fraction operations or integer rules to the students who need them.
  2. Data views. Every attempt, correct or not, plus time per problem, is visible per student and per skill, which identifies who is stuck where.
  3. INTEGRAL reports. Standards-based performance reports and pushed diagnostic assignments on site licenses give department-level views, the closest DeltaMath comes to a screener.

Frequently asked questions

Is Delta Math RTI the same as DeltaMath?
No. Delta Math RTI (deltamath.org) is a screening and intervention program built by the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District in Michigan with Alt+Shift. DeltaMath (deltamath.com) is a commercial practice platform from DeltaMath Solutions Inc. in New York. They share a name and nothing else.
What does RTI stand for?
Response to Intervention: a framework in which all students are screened, those with gaps receive targeted small-group instruction (Tier 2), and those who do not respond receive more intensive support (Tier 3). Many districts now call the broader framework MTSS, a multi-tiered system of supports.
Does DeltaMath.com have an intervention feature?
Not a formal RTI program. Teachers use its data views and skill-specific assignments for remediation, and INTEGRAL adds standards-based performance reports, but there are no readiness screeners or tiered intervention cycles built in.
How long is a Delta Math RTI screener?
Online readiness screeners take about 15 to 25 minutes, and student data is available as soon as the student clicks Turn In. Screening windows run in fall (August 15 – October 31) and winter, with Tier 3 screening for students not responding to Tier 2 support.
How long is a Delta Math RTI intervention cycle?
Tier 2 cycles are designed for 8 sessions of about 30 minutes, 3 to 5 days per week; students may exit early after meeting the learning goal three times. Tier 3 cycles are also 8 sessions and early exit is not recommended.
Which one does my school use?
If students log in with a class code and complete assignments with a completion percentage, it is DeltaMath.com. If teachers talk about readiness screeners, Tier 2 groups, Quick Checks, and Growth Charts, it is Delta Math RTI. Some Michigan schools use both.
