Why there is no DeltaMath answer key
Each of the 2,500+ skills has a bank of roughly 100 problem variants, and most variants randomize the numbers again on every load. Two students in the same class working “Finding Slope Graphically” see different lines; the same student reloading the page sees a new one. A PDF of answers would have to cover millions of combinations and would be out of date the moment the bank was edited.
DeltaMath was designed this way on purpose. Its founder built the first version in 2009 after noticing that students could copy homework but could not copy the skill, and the platform still reports every attempt, right or wrong, to the teacher along with time spent.
The four legitimate sources of answers
| Source | When it is available | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Show Example | Before answering, on almost every skill, in every tier | A fully worked problem of the same type with different numbers. Does not affect your score. |
| Show Solution | After submitting, if the teacher enabled it | The step-by-step solution for the exact problem you just answered. |
| Help video | PLUS and INTEGRAL classes, when the teacher leaves videos visible | A short instructional video embedded in the skill, with closed captions. |
| Method guides | Any time, on this site | Steps, worked examples, and the specific mistakes the grader catches, per skill. See the skill guides. |
Show Solution depends on a teacher setting
When creating an assignment, teachers choose one of four Solutions Shown options. If you never see a solution after submitting, the setting is the reason, not a bug:
- Yes: a solution appears after every submitted answer.
- On incorrect only: solutions appear only when you got it wrong.
- On correct only: solutions appear only when you got it right (used to show alternative methods).
- No: no solutions.
On tests the options are similar, with an extra Yes (with results only) that delays solutions until results are posted, and teachers can also delay results themselves until the due date.
Answer formats that cause “false wrongs”
DeltaMath grades exact answers exactly. Most “I had it right and it marked me wrong” cases are one of these:
| Answer type | Accepted | Marked wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Fractions | 2/3, -5/2, 7/4 (improper is fine) | 1 3/4 (mixed numbers), 0.666 for 2/3 |
| Decimals | Exact terminating decimals, or rounded to the requested place when the problem says “round” | Rounded answers when “exact” or “simplest form” is required |
| Radicals | 6sqrt(2), 3+sqrt(7) or the √ key on the math keyboard | sqrt(72) unsimplified, 8.485 |
| Exponents | x^2, 2x^3y | x2, x**2 |
| Ordered pairs | (3, 5) | 3, 5, x=3 y=5, (5, 3) |
| Multiple solutions | 3, -1/2 separated by commas when the box asks for all solutions | Only one of two solutions |
| Equations of lines | y=2x-3 when slope-intercept form is requested | 2x-y=3 unless standard form is requested |
| Units and percent | Number only unless a unit dropdown is shown | 12 cm typed into a numeric box |
How penalties and required counts work
Each skill in an assignment has a required number of correct answers (3, 5, and 10 are common) and a penalty (0, 1, or 2). A penalty of 1 means a wrong answer raises the number of correct answers you still need by one. Teachers can also set a max problems cap so the assignment cannot grow forever.
The practical consequence: on a penalized skill, one careful attempt beats three fast guesses. Opening Show Example first costs nothing; a wrong guess costs a full extra problem.
“DeltaMath answers PDF”
The print-to-PDF feature is part of the INTEGRAL tier and is for teachers: it exports an assignment or test as a paper worksheet, with an optional answer key for the teacher's copy. Students do not have access to it, and because each printout is one fixed set of problems, it does not correspond to what other students see online.
About answer-key and “solver” websites
Sites offering DeltaMath answer keys, bots, or paid “solvers” cannot match randomized problems and typically hand back generic worked examples, which DeltaMath already provides free through Show Example. Teachers see time-per-problem in their data, and on DeltaMath tests other assignments and help tools are locked during the test window. The solver page explains what step-by-step tools can and cannot do, and includes a linear-equation solver that shows every step.
